How to Set Up Custom Whale Alerts (5 Configs That Work)

Jan 18, 20267 min read

The right whale alert configuration is the difference between useful signals and noise. Too broad and you get overwhelmed. Too narrow and you miss critical moves. Here are five proven configurations for different trading styles.

Config 1: The Day Trader

Token filter: Your top 5 most-traded tokens
Minimum USD: $500,000
Classification: BUY and SELL only (ignore transfers)
Chains: All

Why it works: Focuses on actionable transactions in tokens you actually trade. The $500K threshold filters out noise while catching meaningful whale moves. BUY/SELL only means every alert is potentially tradeable.

Config 2: The Swing Trader

Token filter: Top 20 by market cap
Minimum USD: $1,000,000
Classification: All types
Chains: All
Additional: 7-day net flow tracker

Why it works: Higher threshold catches only the largest, most significant moves. All types because swing traders also care about large transfers and DeFi movements that precede trend changes. The 7-day net flow view identifies accumulation and distribution patterns.

Config 3: The DeFi Farmer

Token filter: Top 10 DeFi tokens (UNI, AAVE, LINK, etc.)
Minimum USD: $250,000
Classification: DEFI and TRANSFER
Chains: Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon

Why it works: DeFi-focused filtering catches whale movements into and out of protocols. TRANSFER + DEFI classification catches liquidity additions, yield farming entries, and protocol migrations.

Sonar Pro users can configure these alerts from the Statistics page. Each alert configuration takes under 2 minutes to set up.
