What Is Layer 2?

Layer 2 (L2) solutions are protocols built on top of a base blockchain (Layer 1) to improve scalability and reduce transaction costs. Examples include Arbitrum, Optimism, and Polygon for Ethereum. Whale activity on L2 networks is increasingly important as more trading volume moves to these cheaper, faster networks. Sonar monitors whale transactions on major L2s alongside main chains.
